1. Reputation and Strengths
SWU is located in Municipality of Chongqing, the central and the only mega-city in West China, a major manufacturing base and transportation hub, and the fastest developing region in China, with a 3000-year history and rich culture.
SWU ranks about 37 among all colleges/ universities (nearly 3000) in China. There are 40 colleges covering all the disciplines except military, among which Life Science Discipline Group (Pharmaceutical Sciences included) is entitled as Double First-Class Discipline by China’s Ministry of Education.

Why College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, SWU?
1. Strong faculties
The college has a total staff of 89, with 31 professors and 26 associate professors. Among them, 14 are doctoral supervisors and 33 are master’s supervisors, 62 have doctorate degree, 52 have overseas experiences, 3 American and 1 Indian full-time professors.
2. Solid foundation in scientific research
The college has a Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education, a Key Laboratory of Chongqing, Collaborative Innovation Center of Chongqing, 5 other provincial and ministerial-level research platforms, as well as 2 engineering technology research centers under joint construction with relative enterprises.
The Discipline of Pharmaceutical Sciences is entitled as the Important Support Discipline for National Biology First-Class Discipline, Key Discipline of Chongqing and the First-Class Cultivation Discipline of SWU.
3. Advantaged programs
The Pharmacology of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Chemistry Traditional Chinese Medicine are the key disciplines of National Administration Traditional Chinese Medicine in in China.
There are 40 faculties engaged in the research of Traditional Chinese Medicine, including 18 professors and 8 associate professors. Among them, 12 are doctoral supervisors.
The Research interests are focus on resources, active ingredients, pharmacology and preparation of TCM, as well as Research and development of Innovative TCM.
4. International exchanges and cooperation
The college encourages teachers and students to exchange abroad, invites foreign experts to teach in SWU, holds international academic conferences, as well as recruits international undergraduates, postgraduate students, doctoral students, and post-doctor. The college also launched exchange programs with Khon Kaen University, Thailand and a joint training program of ‘3+1’ dual bachelor degree program in Biopharmaceuticals with Institute of Technology Carlow, Ireland.
Brief introduction of PhD Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences
Ø The program is aimed to cultivate PhD with solid experimental ability, systematic pharmaceutical knowledge and independent scientific research ability through study in academic lectures, lab experiments, as well as practice in Chinese Traditional Medicine pharmaceutical company.
Ø Through the study in this program, students can understand Chinese history and cultural characteristics, the development history and research status of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the frontier technology and development trend of traditional medicine research, the key core knowledge and skills of traditional medicine research and development, and scientific research thinking.
Ø We will recruit lecturers, teaching assistants and advanced graduate students from Ain Shams University, Egypt, who intend to study for doctoral degree in traditional medicine (pharmacognosy) in SWU.
Ø Applicants should be interested in traditional medicine research, have certain basic theoretical knowledge and experimental skills in pharmaceutical science, be proficient in pharmaceutical English, and be willing to make contributions to Sino-Egyptian pharmaceutical cooperation in the background of One Belt and One Road Initiative.

Scholarship:
SWU provides 1 seat (one formal and one substitute, just in case) of Chinese Government Scholarship for the applicants from any African countries to be enrolled in “the Doctoral Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences of Ain Shams University, Egypt”. There is no limit whether the students are at present in China or not. And the applicants should have excellent English.

The scholarship covers tuition, laboratory experiment, internship, accommodation on campus, and Comprehensive Medical Insurance.

Admission criterion:
Scholarship applicant must
1. be a citizen of any African country;
2. be in good health;
3. not be sponsored by any other kind of scholarship;
4. be a master’s degree holder under the age of 40 when applying;
5. GPA and Language Requirements
1) GPA 3.0 and above out of 4.0, or 80 and above out of 100.
2) Chinese-taught Programs require:
HSK4 200 and above.
3) English-taught Programs require:
IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 85 and above, or English proficiency certificate from previous institute.
Documents Required
1. Applicant’s resume.
2. Master’s degree diploma and transcript. Such documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized copies in English.
3. English proficiency certificate from previous institute, or IELTS or Internet-based TOEFL certificate for non-English speakers.
4. Two recommendation letters from professors or associate professors with their signatures and contact information.
5. Research proposal in English (not less than 2000 words).
6. Published academic papers or other academic achievements if any.

Please use Firefox or Internet Explorer (11.0). Menu selection functions may not work in other browsers. Please complete the application in Chinese or English.
3. After logging into the system with your registered username and password, read the Online Application Guidance carefully and follow the steps. You should choose “Type B” to march the agency no. of SWU, i.e. 10635. Otherwise you will not be able to continue your online application.
4. Click “NEXT” and fill in the other information (education background and employment record, language proficiency and proposed study in China, etc.) truly, correctly and completely following the steps listed on the left of the page.
5. Preview the application form after finishing it and then submit it online. You can withdraw your application to make changes, but make sure to submit it again. Otherwise, the retrieved application will become invalid and your new application will not be received either.
6. SWU organizes expert panel to appraise the documents and makes a proposed list of applicants, and then reports to Chongqing Municipal Education Committee and China Scholarship Council for final appraisal and approval.
7. Getting the approval, SWU announces the result on http://gjxy.swu.edu.cn and informs the recipients via Email.
8. SWU posts Admission Notice and Visa Application Form (JW201) to the successful applicants directly around July 15, 2020.
