Chinese Government Scholarship PhD Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences 2022
Southwest University (SWU) provides seats (the number of which to be decided by CSC in June) of Chinese Government Scholarship for the graduate students from one road and one belt countries’ universities, to be enrolled in the “Doctoral Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences”.
The scholarship covers tuition, laboratory experiment, internship, accommodation on campus, Comprehensive Medical Insurance, and CNY 3,500 Yuan as monthly living allowance.

About the One Belt and One Road PhD Program
Brief introduction of PhD Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences
Ø The program is aimed to cultivate PhD with solid experimental ability, systematic pharmaceutical knowledge and independent scientific research ability through study in academic lectures, lab experiments, as well as practice in pharmaceutical company.
Ø Through the study in this program, students can understand Chinese history and cultural characteristics, the development history and research status of Chinese Pharmaceutical industry, the frontier technology and development trend of traditional medicine research, the key core knowledge and skills of Pharmaceutical Sciences research and development, and scientific research thinking.
Ø Applicants should be interested in Pharmaceutical Sciences research, have solid basic theoretical knowledge and experimental skills in Pharmaceutical Sciences. Students should possess questioning spirit and innovation ability. Upon graduation, students are able to carry out independent scientific research.
Ø Students should be proficient in pharmaceutical English, and be willing to make contributions to pharmaceutical cooperation in the background of One Belt and One Road Initiative.

Scholarship Application:
Ø Admission criterion
Scholarship applicant must
1. be a citizen of any “One road and one belt” country;
2. be in good health;
3. not be sponsored by any other kind of scholarship;
4. be a master’s degree holder under the age of 40 when applying;
5. GPA and Language Requirements
1) GPA 3.0 and above out of 4.0, or 80% and above out of 100%.
2) IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 70 and above, or English proficiency certificate from previous institute.
Ø Documents Required
1. Applicant’s resume and passport.
2. Master’s degree diploma and transcript. Such documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized copies in English.
3. English proficiency certificate from previous institute, or IELTS or Internet-based TOEFL certificate for non-English speakers.
4. Two recommendation letters from professors or associate professors with their signatures and contact information.
5. Research proposal in English (not less than 2000 words).
6. Published academic papers or other academic achievements if any.
Ø Application & Recruitment Procedures
1. Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (in Chinese or English);
2. Copy of Passport Home Page. If the validity of the applicant’s current passport does not meet the requirement (meaning the passport expires before September 2022), please apply for a new passport before submitting the application;
3. Notarized highest diploma. Prospective diploma winners must submit official proof of student status by their current school.
4. Academic transcripts (from the undergraduate program onwards). Copies of academic records from first to last semester during the undergraduate, graduate (if any), and doctoral programs (if any) shall be provided. These transcripts shall be issued and sealed by the attending university’s academic affairs office, graduate school, or student management department.
5. Language qualification certificates;
6. A study plan proposal. A study plan written in Chinese or English shall contain more than 1,000 characters or words; the proposal of a doctoral student shall be signed by the applicant’s Chinese supervisor;
7. Recommendation letters. Two letters of recommendation (written only in Chinese or English) from professors or associate professors shall be submitted. And one of them must be from SWU supervisor. These letters shall describe the applicant’s objectives of learning in China, comprehensive abilities, and evaluation of future growth, as well as the cooperation between the supervisors or the exchange between universities both in China and abroad (if any);
8. The relative invention patents or published academic papers, etc.;
9. Example of art. To apply for majors related to art or design, applicants could submit their own works;
10. Applicants under the age of 18 should submit the valid documents of their legal guardians in China;
11. A photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form completed in English (the original copy shall be kept by the applicant) within 6 months prior to the submission date of the application.
12. Non-criminal record report within 6 months prior to the submission date of the application.
13. After SWU internal review and evaluation, SWU will inform the short listed students and send out pre-admission letter issued by SWU International Students Admission Office. It shall contain the following information (in Chinese or English):
a. Applicant information: full name, nationality, date of birth, name of the university last attended, the highest degree attained and its date, major to be enrolled and language taught in the coming courses (Chinese or English);
b. Academic status in China: master student or doctoral student;
c. Projected time of staying in China: September 1, 2022 to July 15, 2025 (2026 for doctoral student), and the time of enrollment: August 29 to September 2, 2022;
d. Information of the applicant’s Chinese supervisor;
e. Descriptions of the applicant’s studies or research in China.

Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.

The college has a total staff of 92, 29 professors and 27 associate professors. Among them, 21 are doctoral supervisors and 31 are master’s supervisors, 66 have doctorate degree, 52 have overseas experiences.

The college has one Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education, one Key Laboratory of Chongqing, Collaborative Innovation Center of Chongqing, five other provincial and ministerial-level research platforms, as well as two engineering technology research centers under joint construction with relative enterprises.
The Research interests are focus on Natural medicine, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmacology, as well as Research and development of Pharmaceutical industry.

The discipline of Pharmaceutical Sciences has built a complete talent training system from undergraduate, master, doctor to post-doctoral. We have two doctor programs in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biology and Medicine, master programs in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chinese medicine, as well as bachelor programs in Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Pharmaceutical Engineering.
4. International exchanges and cooperation
The college encourages teachers and students to exchange abroad, invites foreign experts to teach in SWU, holds international academic conferences, as well as recruits international undergraduates, postgraduate students, doctoral students, and post-doctor. The college also launched exchange programs with Khon Kaen University, Thailand and a joint training program of ‘3+1’ dual bachelor degree program in Biopharmaceuticals with Institute of Technology Carlow, Ireland.
