Prof. Hua Zuo earned her PhD degree from Changwon National University, South Korea in Feb 2008, and joinedCollege of Pharmaceutical Sciences,Southwest University since then. She visited Purdue University, USA from 2014 to 2015. She has a research expertise in nucleic acid nanotechnology, interactions of biological macromolecules, and nucleic acid drugs and their carriers, and published papers inJ. Am. Chem. Soc.,Angew Chem Int Ed,Adv Drug Deliv Rev,Small, Nanoscale, Sci China Chem, etc.Her research group cooperates with Prof Chengde Mao (Purdue University), who is apioneer in the field of nucleic acid nanotechnology.

Research Interests

Nucleic Acid Nanotechnology

(1)Fabricate nano/microstructured systems to mimic the nuclear environment of the cell and develop experimental and theoretical methods for structural analysis.

(2)Develop DNA computing methods

Interactions of Biological Macromolecules

(1)Systemetically study DNA/RNA-protein hybrid self-assembly methods and construct DNA/protein hybrids

(2)Use highly ordered DNA/RNA-protein structures in hematological diseases

Nucleic Acid Drugs and Their Carriers

(1)Develop therapeutic oligonucleotides like siRNA, aptamer, miRNA, and antisense oligonucleotides

(2)DNA/RNAassisted immunetherapies

(3)mRNA stability investigation

(4)DNA/RNA as nanocarriers for drug delivery

Major Techniques in Our Group Include:

DNA/RNA manipulation (gel electrophoresis, labeling, hybridization, PCR), atomic force microscopy (AFM), electron microscopy (EM), flow cytometry, fluorescence spectroscopy, cell culture, protein expression and purification, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), Mass Spectrometry (MS), High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and chemical synthesis.
